China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said on September 25 that the ministry would strengthen regulation over the PV industry. The MIIT and relevant government branches will look into PV enterprises across the country and release guidelines on the development of China's poly silicon industry.
The MIIT would launch a study on the development scheme and strategy of the PV industry, it said.
PV industry, as a major component of the new energy sector, has experienced rapid development in China. However, lack of overall planning, unclear industry policy and its low access threshold have led to overcapacity and indiscriminate investment in the industry, which would severely impact the PV industry's sustainable development.
Recently at a conference held in Luoyang, Henan province, the MIIT, relevant industry associations, institutions and PV enterprises discussed setting up a monitoring and early warning mechanism for the country's poly silicon industry.
